If you must blame anyone for this, blame Greg Bear for making The Forerunner Saga such a freaking fantastic book series. Lord knows I've always loved and been fascinated by the Forerunners, and the fact that we're finally getting to know who--and what--they were just makes my little fanboy heart explode with joy.
In the case of The Librarian here, I've always felt that she was one of the most intriguing and mysterious figures in Halo lore... but even that didn't prepare me for how utterly captivated I would be by her introduction in Cryptum. So this here is my interpretation of what she might look like based on Bear's descriptions, however brief they were. She's said to have been considered beautiful by both Forerunners and humans alike, with smooth slender features and pale blue and pink skin; a picture of simplistic elegance and youth despite her incredible age. For what parts Bear left vague I implemented many of my own imaginings, but I was careful to maintain the almost fairy-tale-like presence of her character. I took inspiration from Evangelion's Rei Ayanami and the elves from Tolkien's works (which the Forerunners were actually compared to by Bear at a book signing... Take from that what you will).
Am I saying I expect this interpretation to be correct? No, not even close. X'D I wouldn't be surprised if I was completely wrong no matter how close I paid attention. But this is what I see when I think of The Librarian: this beautiful, practically angelic being brimming with warmth and kindness towards all life. Here's hoping it does the character justice, at least~ uwu
I have to say that this version sems to capture the Librarians spirit as described by Greg Bear better than what I saw in Halo 4. This Librarian looks beautiful. I kinda kept expecting the Halo 4 version to suddenly offer John Fresh Cookies and Hot Cocoa. She just seemed, "grandmotherly" to me.
Honestly, if they'd gone with a design and presence that I was more or less expecting, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed seeing her in-game as much. Same deal with the Didact, or any of the Forerunner characters. It didn't bother me that her appearance didn't align with the image I'd formed in my head -- it was just another element of surprise for me.
I admit I can't say I'm dissatisfied with the H4 design, she was certainly benevolent and maternal in her nature. I just thought she seemed a bit, grandmotherly, compared to how I envisioned her. I think it's just the Voldemort nose and the helmet thingie make her look elderly.
